Position size calculator

Decide how much you are willing to lose first. The calculator tells you how big the trade can be.

Assumes the usual contract sizes: 1 lot of gold = 100 ounces, 1 lot of forex = 100,000 units, account in USD. Some brokers use different sizes, so check yours. Spread and slippage can make the real loss a little bigger.

How to use it

  1. Pick your risk per trade. Many educators suggest 1% or less while you learn.
  2. Find your stop-loss on the chart first: the price where your idea is clearly wrong.
  3. Enter both prices. The lot size is the biggest trade where that stop costs only your planned risk.
